Back To The Foundation

18and they are in the dark in their reasoning. They are disconnected from God’s life because of their ignorance and their closed hearts. 19 They are people who lack all sense of right and wrong, and who have turned themselves over to doing whatever feels good and to practicing every sort of corruption along with greed.

20 But you didn’t learn that sort of thing from Christ. 21 Since you really listened to him and you were taught how the truth is in Jesus

Ephesians 4:18-21 CEB

So when I heard that last part, you know, it automatically took me back to my younger days, and you know most of us, we all grew up in the church. We all grew up in the household of grandparents, parents, sisters, cousins, aunties, and uncles. They all grew up in the church, or even if you didn't grow up in the church in your household, you knew something about Jesus. You knew something about prayer, so I just wanted to talk about that today.

Our family may have laid that foundation of Christ Jesus while we were younger. I think back to the verse about Proverbs 22:6, train up a child in the way that he should go, so when he is old, he will not depart from me. In this verse, for today, we see that sometimes as people of God, we can get disconnected from God because of our ignorant and our closed hearts. I know with my generation, we are all older and have been through many situations in life. We have gone through things, so much that we become null to everything, and it may have made us not care about anything. That’s when we become unconscious. We become closed hearted/ice cold. Sometimes this how we disconnect from God but guess what, God is still connected to us.

I always say this subject hit home because I’ve been there before. You know the older generation always says, I understand just do this, or do that. I have to tell my mom all the time, “no mom, you don’t understand it’s not that simple.” Our generation is a different breed. We are built so differently.

As I mentioned, we can become so null in certain situations that we turn our backs on God. I’ve been there. I’ve been the one to become ignorant of God’s word and became disconnected from him. In this verse, Paul says, we lack right and wrong, and we turn ourselves over to practice corrupt things and even greed.

Many of us may have found ourselves in this situation or currently going through this situation. We need to get back to that foundation that our family instilled in us about Jesus Christ. In that first verse, it says since you really listen to him, and you were taught how the truth is in Jesus. No matter how deep we may be in a situation, we can always come back to God. His truth lies within us.

Because we know God’s truth, we have to continue to cry out and seek him! That’s all God wants from us is to meet him halfway, to turn from our ways, and seek him. All you have to do is call his name. I can't stress enough how important it is to have that 1 on 1 relationship with God, especially with everything going on right now. You may not be able to get into a church right now and go to the altar. However, if you have that relationship with God, then you know, you don’t need that church altar. You can go before the Throne of Grace wherever you are.

I don’t know who this message is for, but God is waiting for you to turn around and come to him. He's waiting with open arms! You may think you can’t come to him because of your situation. You may feel like God wouldn't even want you in His presence because of everything, you've done. BUT NO, that's not how God is. God is there with open arms, and when you don’t have the words to say, just say, Jesus.

I really just hope this touched someone. I know our generation is lost and seeking help, and it's just so hard right now. Some of us may not know which way to go, and I just really want us to get back to that foundation of Jesus Christ. The one we were raised on and know deep down in our hearts. We can’t get through this thing called life without God's word.

Prayer,

Dear Gracious Heavenly Father God, I just come to you right now. I want to tell you to thank you. Thank you, God, for allowing us to see another day, God. I just thank you for your grace and mercy. I have just come to you right now. We're just praying that you can get us back to the foundation that our parents and grandparents instilled in us about you. God help us to turn back to you. God, even when we feel like you won't be there, we know you're right there, and I just pray for this generation. God, this generation is lost, and we need you like never before. Oh, God, I just pray that you would touch and agree with each and every person right now, who may feel like they can't get through it. I want to tell you I just thank you, Lord. Someone is thinking there might not be a way out for them. God let them know that you are the source and that you will get them out, and you will get them through. Now, God I just thank you, and I love you in Jesus' name, I pray Amen

As I was writing these devotions these two songs came to my mind. I remember singing I Love you Jesus in the choir every fourth Sunday. I remember seeing people cry, as we song this song but never knew why. However, now that I am older, I know why.

This song by J Moss is like one of my new favorite songs. I can relate so much to the lyrics of this song. God loves us through our good and bad.
