2 for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight; 3 for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair; 4 for giving prudence to those who are simple,[a] knowledge and discretion to the young— 5 let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—
Proverbs 1:2-5 New International Version (NIV)
Growing up, I always heard the words wisdom and knowledge used together, but I never knew the difference between the two, until I got older. Wisdom comes from God, while knowledge comes from books. Pretty similar huh, but what distinguishes the two is Wisdom comes from God. Wisdom isn’t something you can just read and get it.
The Book of Proverbs was a supposal written by King Solomon. He was known as one of the wisest kings before and during his time. Why was Solomon so wise? Well, I’m glad you asked. One day God appeared to him in a dream and told him to ask for anything and you know what he asked for… WISDOM! God said because you chose wisdom out of all the things you could’ve asked for; I will give you that and more.
So, as you can see wisdom is important to have. You could have all the knowledge in the world but, without wisdom, it's useless in God’s sight. To respect God is the key to gaining true wisdom.
Lately, I’ve found myself asking God for wisdom because of the way things are right now. Its once again, important to have. If you have wisdom, you will make the right decisions, you’ll live in a way that is pleasing to God. You won’t follow the foolish and you won’t do foolish things.
An amazing thing about God is that he doesn’t put stipulations on his blessing and wisdom. James wrote if you lack wisdom, all you have to do is ask God. (James 1:5) Yes, all you have to do is ask, but you will also need to be persistent in what you’re asking for.
Along with gaining wisdom, you may lose some along the way, some may even say you’re acting funny. With wisdom, you won’t have to justify your actions because true wisdom comes from God. So, if you’re using the wisdom that God gave you then you can’t go wrong.
Using your Wisdom may get hard. BUT remember that God is with you every step of the way. He did not give you all that wisdom for anything.
Hope you enjoyed as much as I did :)
